Everything is bigger in Texas, as the saying goes, but Rapid Ric is here to make it badder, too, and he does just that with “Actin’ Bad,” the second single off his new album, Whut It Dew. He brought on two other Texans to toughen up the track: longtime friend Slim Thug, who Ric used to DJ for on tour, and Lil Keke, who was featured on “25 Lighters” by DJ DMD. “‘Actin’ Bad’ samples ’25 Lighters,’ which is one of the most popular classic Texas rap songs ever,” says Ric. “DJ DMD was a DJ from Port Arthur who put out self-produced compilations with many artists, much like what I’m doing with Whut It Dew, so it was it honor to have him say that he’s familiar with the movement here.”

Rapid Ric’s production, chock full of organ, beating drums, and an ominously screwed hook, is perfect for Keke’s and Thugga’s southern drawls, as the two use the track as an opportunity to reunite a long-running collaborative history that includes their 2003 album together, The Big Unit. And, in addition to that, for Ric it’s just a feel good song, made for top-notch car speakers. “It’s a Sunday cruise song,” he says, adding, “The low end is made for a Cadillac’s trunk.”
