MC Eiht ft. Conway The Machine – Everyday

It’s good to hear MC Eiht on “Everyday,” a low-tempo collaboration with Conway The Machine produced by Ferhan C. Presented as audio only, the record keeps its arrangement to two verses and Eiht’s recurring chorus. The measured pace suits writing that moves from the business of getting money into the violence and grief surrounding it.

Conway takes the first verse, opening with threats before describing himself playing spades on the corner, entirely comfortable in his surroundings. That confidence becomes more troubling when he turns to the aftermath of killing: sleeplessness, nausea, and a memory that lingers for weeks. He puts those consequences alongside the boasts, then closes with another threat. The verse leaves that contradiction intact.

Eiht follows with a verse preoccupied with loyalty, betrayal, and people struggling to survive. His neighborhood is rendered through gunfire from a passing vehicle, ricochets, and the proximity of violence to a religious service. Birthdays, posters, bloodstained pavement, and burned-out candles bring the losses into focus. His question about a friend’s senseless death gives the verse a plainly grieving center.

Eiht’s refrain keeps returning to earning money through danger and pain, making the title feel like a description of an exhausting routine. Following Conway’s account of disturbed sleep and Eiht’s memorial imagery, its repetition becomes increasingly bleak. Money keeps moving, while the verses dwell on consequences that stay with the people left behind. That tension gives the song its weight.
