Pizon feat. Styles P & Alex Dew – Racing Thoughts Video

Pizon turns an overactive mind into a full-scale fantasy quest on the official video for “Racing Thoughts,” featuring Styles P and Alex Dew. The song originally appeared on Pizon’s 2024 album Mic Scholar, a project built around the Queens emcee’s unusual intersection of hip-hop, law and politics, and was described at release as an “anthem for overthinkers everywhere.” That description only captures part of it. “Racing Thoughts” moves from Pizon’s own restless self-examination to Styles P wrestling with survival and mortality before Alex Dew broadens that mental overload into thoughts about injustice, democracy and lives lost to violence. What ties it together is the inability to simply shut the mind off.

Pizon opens alone with the thoughts that arrive when everything else gets quiet. He jumps rapidly between resentment, competition, old wounds, confidence, relationships and even the question of whether being single affects his electability. It could easily become scattered, but that is essentially the design of the record. His mind keeps changing channels. More noticeable here is the way Pizon delivers it. He adopts a more fluid flow than usual, letting the rhymes tumble into one another rather than attacking every line with the same cadence. The hook gives all of that movement a center with its acknowledgment that overthinkers can understand a mind that seemingly refuses to slow down. That theme also fits Mic Scholar, which Pizon framed around his experiences as an emcee, attorney and politician and subjects including justice, personal loss and social change.

Styles P takes the concept somewhere darker. His racing thoughts are informed by death, distrust and the contradictions required to survive. He wants to spread love while still feeling the need to keep a weapon nearby; his spirit can be good while his head remains troubled. It is a compact verse, but Styles has enough lived experience in his delivery that he doesn’t need much space to make the conflict register. Alex Dew then shifts the perspective outward, with Pizon interjecting references to Roe v. Wade, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and Tyre Nichols. Suddenly the racing mind isn’t only occupied by personal problems. It is trying to process the state of the country and whether justice and democracy can actually live up to their promises. The progression makes the record increasingly heavy as it moves forward.

Pizon, who also directed the video, translates all of this into what looks like a 16-bit-era RPG. Pizonia becomes a fantasy world divided between the Kingdom of the Mind, Ghost Realm and Harmony Highlands. Pizon appears in medieval blue and gold as the King of the Mind, while Styles P becomes the Ghost King, dressed in black and dark maroon with a blue baseball cap. Instead of reducing the lyrics to artists standing in front of animated scenery, the treatment turns their problems into enemies and quests. Complacency, self-doubt, stagnation and oppression become things that can actually be confronted, leading the characters toward a final battle against “Systemic Inertia.” It is a clever way of visualizing a song where so much of the action is otherwise taking place inside someone’s head.

Musically, “Racing Thoughts” also refuses to remain completely inside one box. The production carries rock undertones beneath the rhymes, but they become much more pronounced as Alex Dew takes over the final section. By the outro, the guitar comes forward for a proper solo and pushes the record away from a conventional rap finish. That escalation matches what happens conceptually: Pizon begins with one man awake at night fighting his own thoughts, and the song gradually expands until personal anxiety, survival and societal injustice occupy the same crowded mental space. The animated video makes that progression literal, turning overthinking into an RPG where there is always another opponent waiting somewhere on the map.
