earthsignchels – Already Won

We’re admittedly late to earthsignchels’ “Already Won.” Released back in December 2025, the record came onto our radar after her much more recent “Daddy Died” performance sent us digging backward through her catalog. That search was worth it. “Already Won” is only 96 seconds long, but earthsignchels packs those seconds with enough personality, shifting cadences and straight-up shit talking to make the track feel much bigger than its runtime. The Chicago artist, born Chelsea Clark, has roots in R&B and soul, but “Already Won” puts the rapping squarely in front.

The title tells you where her head is. This is victory-lap music from someone who has decided the outcome before everybody else finishes placing their bets. She calls herself the best, tells listeners to work, take risks and lock in, and approaches competition as something already settled. “They placing bets and I already won” is the thesis. But the confidence works because of how she delivers it. She bends her voice, briefly sings, stops to “focus,” changes pockets and throws little character moments into the performance instead of simply hammering away at one flow for a minute and a half. The song was produced by prodriott, with engineering credited to AfoBeats.

The black-and-white visual, directed and styled by earthsignchels herself, keeps the presentation stripped down enough for that personality to remain the main attraction. There isn’t much time for a conventional song structure anyway. “Already Won” is closer to a concentrated burst of dopeness: get in, establish who you are, make the case and get out. The frustrating part is that it ends right when you’re fully locked in. Another verse would have been welcome. At 1:36, it feels less like somebody shut the booth down while she was still warming up.

Hearing it after “Daddy Died” also makes earthsignchels more interesting. The latter record has drawn attention for turning the death of her father into intensely personal writing, while “Already Won” operates at almost the opposite emotional pole: playful, cocky and completely convinced of itself. “Daddy Died” arrived in June through Not Fit For Society/Columbia and subsequently received a COLORS performance, while “Already Won” predates that push and was released through YUMMY LOVE MUSIC. If “Daddy Died” is the record introducing a much wider audience to what earthsignchels can do, “Already Won” is evidence that the ability and presence were already there. We just got to this one late.
