Apollo Brown & Skyzoo – No Discounts Video

Apollo Brown’s beat drops on “No Discounts” and the face screws up immediately. The production gets that reaction before Skyzoo has laid out his argument about work, sacrifice and payment. Their new Flight School Filmworks video returns to the song from Luxury Tax, with Apollo handling production and Skyzoo on the microphone.

The hook treats years of cultural contribution as work with an unpaid balance. Skyzoo sets the generosity of giving music and knowledge against a marketplace happy to put a price on culture. His demand for compensation grows out of how much has already been handed over, and how readily that contribution can be taken for granted.

The verses trace that frustration through neighborhood lessons, ambition and the limits of respect. Skyzoo questions how useful admiration is when it leaves someone stranded, then recalls a small apartment and a hunger that persists even with a full plate. Those images bring material need into an argument that could otherwise stay abstract.

An opening proverb about mutual help keeps solidarity in the picture. Skyzoo’s refusal to keep discounting his work places a limit on what that generosity can cost him. Within Luxury Tax, released on September 25, the song gives the album’s wider concern with ambition and sacrifice a specific demand: the people doing the giving deserve to be paid.
