It’s that time of year when the various Rap Ups emerge. Back again from his on-again, off-again Rap Up retirement is the emcee who started it all. It’s always a question of whether or not Mad Skillz is going to drop one—a fact he plays off in the intro when he’s asked if he’s doing one this year. After he responds that he isn’t feeling it, an unseen woman—speaking as the voice of the fans—tells him, “Get to work. The people need you,” echoing the kinds of messages that flood social media toward the end of every year.
So much happened this past year that it wouldn’t have made sense not to have a Mad Skillz 2025 Rap Up. Skillz dropped his Rap Up on January 1st with the dedication “For My Brother D’Angelo,” whom he also namechecks in the track. Taking a laid-back approach, Skillz highlights many of the biggest moments of 2025, touching on Trump’s shenanigans, the Diddy trial and documentary, ICE, Sinners, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and that strange relationship between Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
So before checking out Uncle Murda and Justina Valentine’s 2025 Rap Ups, sit back and recap 2025 with Mad Skillz.
