It’s a Stone’s Throw Christmas! I can’t even tell you how excited I was to see this album in my inbox. Not only is it Stone’s Throw, but it’s a Christmas album and its hip-hop. Stones Throw's Peanut Butter Wolf has thrown together some obscure classics alongside some exclusive contributions by other ST artists James Pants, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Baron Zen to create this weird, but fulfilling holiday assortment. And not that Boyz II Mens’ Let It Snow and a Peanuts Christmas wasn’t doing it for me, but a good hip-hop holiday album is long over due, cause if I have to suffer through TLC, Snoop and Dre and them one more time. . .
Badd Santa: A Stones Throw Records Xmas has something here for everyone, touching ever cornerstone of the black music diaspora. From “Santa Got A Bag of Soul,” a souled-out, big band jam (R.I.P to the Godfather) to “Christmas Bells”, a great old school-inspired record with no extra bullshyt production or fancy mindless rhyme schemes, remnant of another rock-rap joint. PB has got the rastas covered on “Christmas is Coming,” while the Quad City DJ’s “What I Want for Christmas” is for the 90’s babies- (put your hands upon your hip, when I dip you dip we dip)-loves it! A little electronica on I Like Christmas from Bruce Haack is surely making my season bright; and for those of us celebrating the ethnic holiday Kwanzaa, now we gotta a hip-hop track too! If you’ve never heard of it, this is the perfect opportunity to learn how to pronounce the days- no seriously, take a lesson.
This album is perfect for hipsters, old schoolers, and anyone who needs some freakin’ holiday cheer. I’m already in the holiday spirit, but if this doesn’t get you there, then your heart is made of stone! (I just don’t quit with the puns)
