A. MED - "Push" (prod J.Dilla)
B. MED - "Cant Hold On" (prod Madlib)
Label: Stones Throw
Album: Push Comes to Shove
This is a solid effort from Stones Throw's emerging emcee. Medaphor's verses are well-paced and his rhymes are sharp. "Push" lacks content – it is basically a track about female anal thrusts – but J. Dilla drops a dirty and fitting beat. On "Can't Hold On," Madlib waxes nostalgic with a soulful, brooding groove that is reminiscent of the Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23." But personally, I could do without anymore speedy soul-vox loops.
