Kertasy Gets Fresh 2 Def with Video Debut
New Jersey MC Teams with Brooklyn’s Debonair Records
Single and Video Released for "Fresh 2 Def"
New York, NY — While many of today’s up and coming artists get buried in the shuffle of promoting their records, New Jersey-born Kertasy is bringing a fresh face and new style to the forefront of today’s music. Kertasy has teamed with Debonair Records to create his full-length debut album, which is due out later this year. He recently released the catchy single "Fresh 2 Def," and now has a video to bring the song to life.
Hailing from Elizabeth, New Jersey, Kertasy faced a number of challenges in his youth, all of which he has been able to express through his music. At one point he was in the streets, hustling in every way imaginable. Through the traumatic experiences of witnessing his mother’s drug addiction, his father passing away and seeing how street life was bringing down his friends, Kertasy chose to take a different route. Through his life changes, his mother also got back on the right track and is clean to this day. Kertasy still enjoys inspiring others through his actions.
In the past two years Kertasy has released two mixtapes, Kockback and Reloaded- Leave a Message Vol. 1 and 2, and created a buzz for himself with the street singles "All Eyes," "Shake Dat A**" and "Drinkin My Money." Beginning in 2005, Kertasy performed on the national Vibe Magazine College Tour for three consecutive years, sharing the stage with the likes of Juelz Santana, Fabolous, Little Brother and Cheri Dennis.
"I feel like my success has been climbing over the past three years," explains Kertasy. "It was a highlight to be on the Vibe Magazine College Tour and rocking for hundreds of people, all cheering and loving my music when they were hearing it for the first time. That is inspiring, and shows me that I’m on the right track in giving the fans what they want, while holding on to my musical vision."
In June 2008, Kertasy appeared on BET’s Spit Ya Game segment, garnering even more interest from fans via his Myspace and YouTube channels. He’s been in the studio working on his album, which will be released only when Kertasy and Debonair Records feel the time is right.
"People can expect a lot of different concepts with the direction I’m taking my music," explains Kertasy. "It won’t be a bunch of words slapped together to make it rhyme – there will be meaningful stories in the album. Of course I’ll make some enjoyable music for the women and the clubs too, but it’s all about achieving a balance."
With his new single "Fresh 2 Def," Kertasy is poised to make a solid impact on radio, television and live appearances throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. The video offers a vivacious performance from the young artist, and currently receives favorable play on independent video shows in the tri-state area, and radio rotation on 26 stations on the East coast. The video is also on the Music Choice On Demand cable network.
Debonair Records is looking toward more live shows, promotional touring and special appearances for Kertasy as the album date nears. "Kertasy is definitely an artist who not only through his music, but he as a person exemplifies all those attributes that made me devote my life to Hip Hop," explains Debonair Records’ CEO Philipp "Debonair" Pierre. "When I first heard his music, the first thing that struck me was his colossal voice and the sincerity he expresses. His humble, hard working attitude is refreshing. His fans come from all over the country, all with different stories and struggles. He is truly an artist of the people."
Kertasy expresses a mutual admiration for the Debonair Records team, and foresees big things for the future. "Debonair has a very firm work ethic that pushes me to work harder," says Kertasy. "He truly believes in me and the project, so much that nothing will stop him in accomplishing the goals we set. Debonair will be the next great label with me as the flagship artist to set things off!"
Under the earth’s surface in the rough waters of the deep blue sea, the ocean’s creatures exist under one motto: hunt or be hunted. But along their voyage of survival, each organism, from the tiny flounder to the mighty marlin, knows its position in the food chain. That is to say, while establishing roles and defining leaders of the underworld, these same animals put aside all egos and immediately bow down when the King of Kings comes through. Feared and respected by all, he is Kertasy, AKA the black Vince Chase of the rap game.
Kertasy has just released his new single and video for “Fresh 2 Def” in conjunction with Brooklyn-based Debonair Records. Fully equipped with his eclectic blend of Hip Hop, Kertasy emerges onto the scene as the breath of fresh air we’ve all been gasping for.
At just 21-years-old, the Elizabeth, New Jersey, native built on the past three years of musical writing and recording experience to deliver his second street mixtape, rightfully titled Kockback and Reloaded- Leave a Message Vol. 2. Having opened up for acts such as Eve, Benzino, Lil Kim and Sean Paul broadcast live on Power 105, and working alongside super producer R. Kelly, Kertasy manifests his vision of musical diversity in the volatile world of entertainment.
The perfect mix of street and suave, Kertasy has the makings of a great artist. “I’m not the average kid trying to rap, I’m not trying to be like another Jay-Z or 50 Cent,” explains Kertasy. “Actually, I don’t even want to be categorized as strictly a rapper because my music goes beyond that.”
And indeed it does. On his last single “Drinkin My Money,” the multifaceted artist displays a bit of his vocal ability as he provides a catchy jingle and equally catchy lyrics guaranteed to be a summer hit. A play on a Creole term
“Drinkin My Money,” the song provides humor and entertainment all under the guise of clever wordplay.
“It’s living the life to the fullest and having fun,” explains Kertasy. “Whether you’re on a foreign island with your lady sipping champagne, or on the block drinking barbancourt with family and friends – it’s about enjoying the fruits of your labor.”
Kertasy linked up with production and management company, Debonair Records in the pursuit of solidifying a label/distribution deal for the project. Together they released the mixtape Kockback and Reloaded – Leave a Message Vol. 1 hosted by the Harlem Diplomats. The mixtape spawned two club hits “All Eyes” and “Move Dat A**”.
With the video for “All Eyes” currently playing on local video channels, and with radio airplay in Boston, Connecticut and Music Choice, and his three appearances on the Vibe Magazine College Tour with Juelz Santana, Little Brother, Fabolous, and Cheri Dennis, Kertasy is making his presence felt in a big way.
Kertasy, who first created a buzz in his native Elizabeth, New Jersey, says his style has immensely changed and expanded from his early start. “I listen to every single type of music,” he says. “When I was younger, my favorite artists were B.I.G, Jay-Z, Wu Tang and Tupac to name a few. I’ll bump the R&B while I’m driving, then throw in a Tupac CD when I get home. The rock, Hip Hop, R&B and reggae – all of that together makes Kertasy.
“I just feel like this is what I’m meant to do,” he continues emphatically. “This is why God put me here, to utilize my talents. I don’t talk too much about guns and violence because not every body Gang Bang. My music is for every one, young or old. I want my music to reflect what’s going on in my life at the time. I make a song for every different emotion a human has.”. “So many rappers get caught up in talking tough and being a gangster. I want to show the world that you can be a gangster and still make good music. I want to make people get up and dance, not fight all the time”
On his latest offering “Fresh 2 Def,” his hardcore street persona emerges as heavy guitar rifts provide the backdrop for Kertasy to rhyme. One moment he spits: “Song lyrics?” And the next he’s reciting a big, catchy chorus: “This is me, Mr. Fresh 2 Def”
This song is for every body who love getting fly. You can be broke and not have a penny and still look Fresh 2 Def. When you walk down the street people will look at you like you have a million Dollars. “Being Fresh 2 Def is a way a life, not a state of mind.”
"I’m The Vince Chase of my Entourage, so make way world, I’m just getting started. Life as we know it will never be the same."
