Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival adds J.Period, Blitz The Ambassador, Print and Kidz In The Hall

The 3rd Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival adds J.Period, Blitz The Ambassador, Print and Kidz In The Hall to 2007 Lineup

June 5th, 2007 Producers of the 3rd Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival are pleased to announce the most recent additions to their 2007 lineup – Brooklyn’s own J.Period, Blitz The Ambassador, Print, and Chicago’s Kidz In The Hall. These artists join a stellar roster to perform on June 23rd, the final day of the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival taking place at Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park.

The five-day, free event begins this week, kicking off with its celebration of 50 years of the influential Stax Records label with Ralph McDaniels and Large Professor. Festivities will continue for the next three weeks, including Living Proof, the photography of David Alan Harvey in conjunction with Magnum Festival, Hip Hop Under The Bridge with Ralph McDaniels, a screening of Wild Style, and a full day of performances and festivities including sets from Ghostface, Sean Price, Consequence, Skillz, Dres, Large Professor,Emily King,Tanya Morgan, El Michels Affair, hosted by Ralph McDaniels.

A celebration of Hip Hop music and culture, as well as the borough of Brooklyn as a premier cultural destination, the BHF has been host to performances from the best in Brooklyn talent, as well as artists from around the globe. “These recent additions to the lineup are a strong showing of Brooklyn’s Hip Hop talent,” says Alma Geddy-Romero, Director of the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival. “Not only does the BHF showcase home grown artists, but invites groups from around the globe to perform in one of Hip Hop’s premier communities.”

Since setting the standard for “Best of” mixtapes with his 2003 Nas collaboration, J.Period has crafted some of the hottest mixtapes of the decade. His love for Hip Hop shows through in his work and his attention to detail has earned countless accolades: most recently, 2006 Power Summit “Mixtape DJ of the Year,” MTV’s “Top DJ’s of 2006,” and Allhiphop’s “Best Mixtape of 2006.” In 2006, J.Period solidified his position as the Industry’s go-to guy for Official Mixtapes and the next in line for the crown. He crafted promo CDs for Def Jam, GOOD Music, EMI and Geffen; toured with Lauryn Hill and CL Smooth; recorded with Grammy Winners Mary J. Blige, The Roots and The Fugees; performed at exclusive events for Kanye West, The Marley Brothers and The Isley Brothers; and founded his own label, Truelements Music. He is currently recording with international R&B icons Les Nubians, multi-platinum British songstress Joss Stone, and Hip Hop icons Big Daddy Kane and MC Lyte. “I’m hype to hold down the decks at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival because I know heads in the crowd are there for some real hip hop, and that’s what I do best. Born in Ghana, Blitz The Ambassador honed his skills lyrically and as an MC in the heart of Brooklyn, NYC. Sick of the mundane “assembly-line” nature of Hip Hop, Blitz has created his own sound, taking cues from such artists as Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, Talib Kweli and Dead Prez – he bridges the gap between the soulful sounds of the streets and the ill-nature of politics. His latest release Double Consciousness is “as visiousand pissed off as ever, but with a soothing maturity.” Blitz had this to say about his involvement with this year’s Festival, “This is history in the making man, I remember being at Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival last year saying to myself, I belong on that stage with the best of them, so to be involved with it a year later is unbelievable! I consider Brooklyn my adopted home so to finally get to rep it is a dream come true.”

Print calls Brooklyn home, developing his talent despite obstacles that some would consider unbearable, such as working full time night shifts, attending school as a honor student in college to solidify a degree in English Education, and maintaining a safe, productive environment for himself, without getting trapped in the ills of the world. At only twenty- two years of age, Print expresses himself and his experiences in life through his poetic street lyrics and metaphorical flow creating a distinctive northern-eastern dialect in a class of his own. He had this to say about his upcoming BHF performance, “I feel charged with energy. I feel obliged and determined. I feel ecstatic to see some of the greatest artists I’ve ever heard. And I feel ready to give Brooklyn the best performance they will ever see.”

Kidz in the Hall are looking to become one of hip-hop’s most admired acts, destined to leave a legacy of artistic brilliance. Double O, the producer/DJ and Naledge, the lyricist/MC, are reviving a format that Gangstarr, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, and Run DMC established as the set standard in early-’90s hip-hop. With their debut release, ” School Was My Hustle” Naledge and Double 0 are ready to wow both listeners and critics with not just songs, but anthems about life. “Performing at the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival is such an important way for me to give back to the city that birthed me and introduced me to Hip Hop,” said Double 0 From Kidz In The Hall. “NY and more specifically Brooklyn in the 80’s was a very unique time socially and musically. This environment helped shape my youth and people like Ralph McDaniels and his programming not only introduced me to Hip Hop but made me fall in love with it. So it’s a fitting homecoming for me and in doing so I can hopefully inspire the next generation.”
