Big Pooh has conjured up a whopping new remix with some big names to go along with it. “They Say,” the most recent single released from Pooh’s upcoming album, Dirty Pretty Things, gets a once-over by producer Focus…, along with some stellar guest verses from two rappers who have spent much of their now legendary careers unjustly overshadowed, namely, Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest and T3 of Slum Village.
“I wanted to do a remix that felt like when Pete Rock or DJ Premier used to remix records, give it a whole new feel,” says Big Pooh. “As I was listening to the track and thinking about the message, I reached out to two legends from legendary groups who’s contributions and skills may have also been overlooked.” With Big Pooh’s first verse untouched, the remix moves on to Phife’s honest dialogue, sparring with the opinions of music fans who have may doubted his skills as a solo artist. T3, who closes out the track, offers his own scathing bars. For his part, Focus… doesn’t disappoint, flipping the Cali-vibe of the original in favor of some classic horn chops of heavy drums, swapping out Choklate’s singing in lieu of some sharp scratching that serves to keep things entertaining between verses.
